Caring for your pets during Diwali.

It's that time of the year again when all the lights ,sweets and crackers come out. There maybe so many of us celebrating  a green and clean Diwali, but the bursting of crackers during this time in inevitable. Sure, we wish could get everyone to understand how harmful it is but there's another group of the animal kingdom that's affected way more than us. Yep ,its the pooches.Diwali is a traumatic experience for dogs as their hearing senses are much sharper than ours. All the bright lights and noise confuse them and leaves them terrified.Imagine hearing the already super loud boom of a bomb ten times louder . I have 5 toy poodles and they are already terrified because of the pre -diwali celebration bursting. So, here are some things I found to be effective in calming them down.

1. Shut all windows and doors in the house in order to reduce the amount of noise. Keep them in a room as far away from all the hustle bustle as possible.

2. Keep plenty of water and treats around . Food can be a good distraction.

3. Pamper and cuddle them as much as you can . Many of us would probably be busy attending to guests,so make sure you leave them with someone they are familiar with. Cuddling and petting them can really calm them down a lot . But make sure it's someone who's familiar to them so they feel safe and protected.

4.You could play some music in the room you keep them in so it blocks out the sound of the crackers ,but like I said ,they have very sharp hearing.

5. Avoid taking your pet out for a walk in the evening and night. Early morning is probably the best time.

6. If you take your pet out for a walk, make sure he/she has a proper  tag with your information in case something goes wrong. Also, ensure you carry a strong leash. Dogs are pretty powerful and when frightened they tend to go hulk mode.

7. Try sticking to diyas ,sparklers ,lamps and lights .

So these are my dogs! The one on the left is Rotor, the eldest, hes 19. Then there's lira, she's 4,the two on the right are her pups,Yahoo and Nunu. and the one in the middle is Happy! He's a tea cup poodle:D

Not only dogs ,all animals are afraid of crackers. Atleast we can take some measures to make it less traumatizing for our pets .Imagine the plight of the stray animals , there's no one to care for them. So,this Diwali ,I urge all of you to avoid bursting crackers as much as you can. Apart from traumatizing animals , they are also very harmful to us. They cause noise pollution , air pollution , water pollution and can have a very bad effect on our respiratory system. Crackers are not very safe either . Spend Diwali re connecting with old friends, exchanging gifts and devouring yummy barfis and kaju katlis.I know its tempting, but its not difficult. Try convincing other people also to avoid crackers and enjoy a safe fun and clean Diwali now on:)

Nothin' But a Good Time.// OUTFIT

So, the past two weeks have been super hectic and super fun. I'm finally home after 5 long months!! Yeayiee!! Was so busy with exams that I didn't get time to do anything but study! And after many unsuccessful plans, my bestie finally came to Delhi with me! Her stay was short but it was better than her not being here at all. So I spent the first five days of my holidays having the time of my life (totally needed it).  So,if you want to know how we tried to cram the entire 'dilli waala' experience within those 5 days ...read on!!:D

DAY 1

Well,we caught an early morning flight from Bangalore to Delhi (which by the way , is a 3 hour journey *ugh*) so, by the time we reached we were pretty exhausted. We were asleep almost the entire day and went out for dinner at night .

DAY 2

Both of us are major shopping addicts . So obviously the first thing we did was head out to the famed Sarojini Nagar market! I went there after almost 4 years and I was so thrilled !! Sarojini is any shoppers paradise. You find everything in that market , right from clothes to furniture. It's up to date with the latest trends and they are available at the best prices. And the best part is the bargaining !! The satisfaction you get out of getting a killer item at a cheap price is one of the best feelings in the world!! The market is located close to AIIMS and South campus .Almost all DTC buses ply on the sarojini route. The nearest metro station is INA.Also, the stuff is sarojini keeps changing, and it changes on a weekly basis . So, if you find something that you really like just buy it because you can never find the same thing twice in Sarojini.

I didn't buy much considering my mom recently bought me a whole new wardrobe from Prague! But my friend went crazy! She couldn't believe it was possible to buy such amazing stuff at such low prices!

This is the look i put together!
Oversize neon shirt-thrifted
Shorts-thrifted
Necklace-thrifted
Flats-thrifted.

That's my bestie!!Her name is Vishnu and she's awesome! She's wearing a top and necklace that iv'e used in a previous post!

So, that's Happy! He's a toy poodle and he loves eating everyones shoes. I have five toy poodles and I absolutely love and adore them! The lighter one is Yahoo and he expresses his feelings through peeing.

I tried my best to resist buying all the amazing things I saw there  but I just couldn't help myself!!So, I picked up some stuff that I knew would cost me a bomb elsewhere!

Sarojini goodies!!:D

I had been hunting for a sheer black floral print top for such a long time! When I saw this,
I grabbed it without looking at the size or fit! its so difficult to find a decent floral print shirt that doesn't make you look like a curtain or bed cover!

There was something about this sweater !I love the colour! It's so cozy!

DAY 3

This was probably the most fun day out of the five. We spent a few hours in the parlor getting our hair done. Vish got these amazing red highlights and mine were suppose to be somewhat blonde , but my hair is already colored so when the two mixed it became something totally different and awesome(post coming up on that soon!). We got it done from Abdul who works in the  La Belleza salon in Gurgaon. I would recommend it to anyone who wants good service, amazing results and total satisfaction! It's located in the Arjun Marg complex in Gurgaon.
On our way back we picked up two of our friend's and headed for the most amazing night ever!
My mom and her friend decided to take us out for dinner to Cyber Hub! If your'e not from Gurgaon ,then you should know that, cyber hub is the most happening place around . If you're from Gurgaon, you can take the rapid metro to cyber hub. If you're coming from Delhi , you can get off at either Sikandarpur or Huda city center and then take the rapid metro to cyber hub. Honestly, it seemed like a posh version of Hauz Khas to me. The best of restaurants and pubs are located here. Maybe it was the company that I had ,but there was just something about the place. It had a very youthful and fun vibe to it and the way it is designed is brilliant. We roamed around for a while and then headed to SOI7. The DJ was super boring and the place was super tiny.We got out of there as quickly as we could. After trying to decide where to go , we finally entered Imperfecto..and the night was anything but imperfect. The crowd there was amazing and buzzing with energy and the DJ was whipping out one good tune after another. The waiters were super friendly and were enjoying with the crowd but were also ensuring no one misbehaved. I think we danced for 4 hours straight without even realizing how badly our feet were hurting! If your're in Gurgaon, its a must visit!

The MOMS.

I teamed this skirt with a shirt I bought from sarojini.

DAY 4

Delhi is home to some of the most beautiful , popular and historically rich structures and no trip to Delhi is complete without visiting at least some of them. Though we planned on waking up early , all the dancing the previous night didn't permit us to do so. We originally planned on visiting the Qutab Minar, Hauz Khas fort ,India Gate and Agarsen Ki Baoli, but had time only for Qutab Minar and India Gate since we made a pit stop at the DLF mall in Saket and our madam Vishnu spent nearly 2 hours in Forever 21.

Qutab minar was very well maintained and clean except for the surprising number of plastic bottles in the well. The minar is humongous with intricate work on it. We had to try so many angles before we could entirely fit it in the frame. Of course, there's also the iron pillar which is a single mass and has been rust free since ages.It was pretty crowded and there very various groups of tourists hanging around. The broken pillars and buildings in between were so pretty with detailed work on them.

We also visited the Mehrauli Archaeological Park in hopes of seeing a lot of baolis, but we got lost in between. The area is so vast and everything is so scattered , it's hard to keep track of which direction your'e going in. also, it was very creepy and deserted and there were couples here and there romancing away to glory. So we cut short our visit and headed for lunch to Saket.

India gate was super crowded!! And there was so much street food on the way that we ended up eating even though we didn't want to.Bhel puri, papad, golgappa, icecream, cotton candy and sweet potatoe were in abundance. We walked the entire stretch from central secretariat to India Gate and also got to witness the President crossing the road with his army of vehicles.Sadly, we didn't get a chance to see the Amar Jawan Jyoti and pay our respects to those who lost their lives fighting for our freedom.By the time I got home , I couldn't feel my legs.

I finally got to try the denim on denim trend! I had been hunting for an over sized denim shirt in a light shade! finally found it in sarojini!

Thrifted necklace.

I love love love these shorts! They have everything that makes for a perfect pair of denim shorts! They are frayed, ripped, the perfect length and have an amazing fit!! And the colourful print adds so much fun to them! My mom bought these for me from Prague!

Thrifted from Prague! I'm obsessed with these! They go so well with everything!

I used this orange bag to add a pop of colour to my otherwise very dull outfit. I was wearing very light shades and this bag added the much needed quirk! Picked it up from Sarojini market.

Qutab Minar!!

Iron pillar!

The photos off but the India gate is visible.

DAY 5

Well , I think I got over excited and exhausted myself. I fell sick just the day before my friend was going to leave and didn't have the strength to go anywhere. She went to sarojini with my mom and shopped some more while  I slept at home.

All in all,all of us had an amazing time! Maithili (the other girl in the denim shirt) was our official guide in Delhi along with Nimisha (the fair ,cute, curly hair one) and took more than half the photos in this post. Being history students they made sure we knew everything about the places we visited.

Friday 3 October 2014

Friday i'm in love.

Having a long break between your exams is probably the worst thing that can happen to you .You end up doing everything except the one thing you should do; study. So,after hours of trying to study and completely failing , I decided to head out into the city and clear my head for a while. The weather was pleasant even though it was mid-afternoon and it made me want to throw on a sweepy loose dress and run around on a beach collecting shells and chasing star-fish. So, I started digging through my closet trying to find the perfect attire to match my mood and instead found this denim shirt that I bought ages ago but never really got the chance to wear and I thought to myself , let me see how many different ways I can wear this in . I thought of a zillion ways but I couldn't exactly change my clothes every 10 minutes to try them all out , so I chose the two looks that contrasted the most: the totally girly girl look and the edgy rock chick look (which I also ended up wearing to dinner ).

For the first look I decided to pair this pretty floral dress and use the denim shirt as a shrug. How can denim and floral ever go wrong?

Denim shirt (being used as a denim vest)- shoppingspringbreak.com
Dress- local shop in brigade road (Bangalore)
Boots-thrifted from some shop in China.

My hair decided to act nice:D

Earrings: koovs.com
(I love the stud detailing on the collar, goes so well with the denim!)

For the second look , I wanted to try something more edgy and less girly. So, I decided to wear an all black ensemble and add a pop of denim to it. The boots gave it the perfect rock- chick look I was hoping to achieve!:)

Black Jeggings- Mango
Black top- Thrifted

Bag: thrifted from Prague

As you can see, for both the looks I kept the accessories to a bare minimum. I felt that the stud detail on the shirt added enough spunk to the outfit . For the second look I wore a thin gold chain because gold on black gives the entire look a very classy yet edgy feel.

If you're looking for similar boots , I would recommend checking Forever21 or Zara...but if you ever visit China, you have to go to the faux-leather exhibition there! You will find amazing bags , shoes and belts at extremely cheap rates .

Oh, I went for dinner to this place called 20 feet high. Its located on church street, just above three quarter Chinese. I would totally recommend it to anyone who's looking for great ambiance, yummy food and quick service . Its a little bit overpriced compared to the restaurants nearby , but its definitely worth it . I ordered a farm house burger ,which was basically a double chicken patty with cheese and veggies and my oh my did it taste good . In Marshall's words ," it was God , speaking to us in food". So, if you're in the area and cant decide where to eat , go 20 feet high!

Hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know in the comments below which look you liked better and how you would pair those boots or that denim shirt.:)

Until next time,
Ruhani.
