T-Shirt Reconstruction 2: DIY Caged Back Shirt

Hello all!

I know it's been forever since I've posted! If you follow me on Instagram you'll know that I've been super busy studying and filling out a zillion application forms for my commercial pilot training course and hence could not post.

Anyway, i'm just going to get straight to the post !

We all know that cut out shirts are amongst the biggest trends this summer but like any trending style, they cost a bomb. So let me show you how to make this super cool caged back shirt at home.

Things you'll need:

1. An old t-shirt
2. A pair of scissors
3. Chalk or a marker of some sort

1. Start off by laying your shirt out on a flat surface and cutting out the sleeves, neck and bottom hem.

It should now look something like this:

(You can skip this step if you don't want a tank top styled shirt.)

2. Give the areas you've cut a nice stretch to give it a smoother finish.

3. Turn your shirt inside out and draw a line down the center of the shirt and draw whatever shape you want around it. I had initially decided on a heart but as you can see I ended up making more of a caged design.(you can do this with the right side facing you too but i'm turning it inside out because my drawing skills are horrible and I don't want the chalk marks to show)

4. Now draw horizontal lines across each side from the outline to the line that you've drawn down the center of the shirt. Make sure to not draw the line all the way to the center line though, leave a little bit of space the way I did. I've cut one side to demonstrate that .

5. Now just cut along these line on both side but just keep in mind to not cut all the way to the line in the middle.it should now look something like this.

6. Now turn the shirt back to it's right side out (unlike what I did ) and give every individual strip a good tug to give it a smoother look and viola you're all done!

You can either do this at the back or front of your shirt depending on your personal taste. You can style this by layering a lace bralette under it, a neon slip or just wear it without anything underneath! I know a lot of girls will want to know what type of bra to wear with tops like this , so if you plan on not layering it with a slip or bralette then I would recommend wearing a bra with a low back  if the cut out shape isn't too low, otherwise a stick on bra would be your best friend.

Here's how I styled my caged back shirt:

LOOK 1:

I think this look would be perfect for a brunch date! Decided to keep the accessories to a minimum because i think the shorts are bold enough!

 LOOK 2:

Layered a neon pink tube top under shirt and added some gold jewelry here and there to finish it off.

LOOK 3:

Kept the look as casual as I possibly could! Layered a lace bralette under the shirt, wore this Snob shop necklace as a thigh chain and finished the look off with these amazing Nike sneakers!

Hope you enjoyed this post! It's a super duper easy DIY that all of us are capable of doing and it looks super stylish! If you decide to try it ,do tag me on Instagram @ruhanidogra and on FB @theneverlandchronicles.
